Dr. Bonnie Farrier is an Associate Professor of Rhetoric & Writing and the Teaching Associate Program Coordinator in the Department of English, Comparative Literature, and Linguistics at California State University Fullerton. Dr. Farrier recently completed a 6-year term as the English department's writing center director and she is currently the coordinator of a new program, the English department's Language Policy Ally (LPA) program, that she developed through the writing center to promote diversity in the recruitment of lecturers for the CSUF first year writing program. At the college level, Dr. Farrier, among 4 other faculty and women of color, started the Collective for Justice, Equity and Transformation (CoJET) at CSUF to support faculty of color and the college of humanities in their commitment to equity and diversity. Dr. Farrier is a member of her field’s national organization’s Language Policy Committee, and in this role she recently co-authored a national statement and demand for "Black Linguistic Justice."
Michael Lowry is a Nationally Board Certified physics teacher and has served as Science Department Chair at The McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN. He currently serves as an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow at the Library of Congress. A Presidential Awardee for Excellence in Science Teaching and a Fulbright Fellow (Singapore), Michael’s research and interests center on using emerging technologies to improve science and engineering education, as well as the role of department chairs as agents of curricular reform. He is deeply involved in leadership and curriculum development, having served as the High School Division Director for the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) and as a Curricular Field Tester for the National Center for Science Education. Michael is also a contributing editor for The Science Teacher and The Clearing House. He has participated in several fellowships at Princeton University, Penn State University, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Natalia Ávila Reyes is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where she coordinates the site of the UNESCO Chair on Reading and Writing. She is a linguist and holds a PhD in Education from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research examines the teaching and assessment of writing across educational stages. Within this framework, she has particularly focused on academic writing in higher education through a social justice lens, with sustained attention to deficit discourses, educational inequality, and the recognition of students’ diverse literacy trajectories. Her work contributes to building writing studies as a field from a Latin American perspective, in dialogue with Anglophone traditions of writing across the curriculum and academic literacies. She is a coeditor of the forthcoming Handbook of Writing Research Across the Americas (De Gruyter/Brill). Her studies have appeared in journals such as Studies in Continuing Education, Reading and Writing, and the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education, among others. She serves as associate editor of the journal Assessing Writing and general editor of the emergent journal RLEE, housed by The WAC Clearinghouse.
